Our trips encapsulate the best of golf, food, drink and leisure. We strive to find destinations that offer an all-round experience; those you don’t normally travel to, but should. Our first day at Pärnu Bay Golf Links was a wonderful experience, our stay at Hedon Spa and Hotel was no different.
Hedon is a close partner to Pärnu Bay Golf Links and only a short 10 minute drive from the course. We had arrived at the hotel just after midnight and retired directly to our rooms. We were yet to appreciate the beauty of our home for the next few days.
5 hours sleep and were up early for breakfast (some of us anyway). I managed a short jog along the white sandy beach capturing the stunning sunrise before returning to the restaurant for a well-deserved breakfast. With 6 rounds of golf in the next 4 days, I needed all the energy I could and the morning meal didn’t disappointment. Golf beckoned and it wasn’t until we returned to the hotel around 4pm that we quickly understood our magical surrounds.
The hotel itself is comprised of contemporary accommodation; clean, spacious rooms with large balconies providing majestic views across Pärnu Bay. The history of the site is anything but modern, with history dating back 180 years when mud bathing first became popular. As the popularity increased so did the facilities and whilst the bathing house burnt down in WWI the current building was built in the 1920’s and its neo-classic design has been fully renovated to house a modern spa with full facilities. This was our next stop.
With our massages booked we shuffled through the corridor in our warm bathrobes and slippers direct from our rooms to the spa entrance. I arrived to find Jone, peacefully lying in the Sun room, enjoying the warm rays of the Balinese sun. That’s right you can enjoy different suns before and after your massage. Jone had scheduled an Ancient Estonian Massage., I had opted for the Hedon Special Massage; an experience designed to relieve me of tension and help prepare me for tomorrow’s 36 holes. I knew if I was to prevail on course, my off course mind and body had to be relaxed.
I enjoyed 60 minutes of fully body massage before returning to the Sun Room. Soaking in sun-rays from Mauritius, I sat there, unperturbed, peacefully sipping a nice cup of chamomile tea.
Jone’s Estonian Massage was truly authentic; an original and special experience. Massaged with clothes on, the massage was conducted on the floor with no oils. It was gentle but powerful and extremely invigorating. Incorporating various stretching techniques Jone worked hard to reap the benefits. He knew what he was doing and enjoyed the restoration of his strong muscles. After almost 90 minutes he arose, a little light headed and gingerly returned to the sun room, taking his time to recuperate with a nice cup of tea and magazine in hand.
Later that evening we had regrouped at the bar, enjoying a Põhjala, my first beer from Estonia and one that didn’t disappoint. Our pre-dinner drink conversation centered on the endless highs of the day; unbelievable golf course, amazing location, memorable massage and now great beer. Estonia was truly an undiscovered gem.
The evening continued to surprise and we enjoyed a wonderful 3 course dinner and wine. Fresh local produce wonderfully presented and served with true Estonian hospitality. Without question out trip to Pärnu Bay was already memorable. Day 1 – 10/10
